This channel explores the world of fountain pens, especially slim black vintage fountain pens from the lesser known manufacturers. I also like new pens. I come to you from North Dakota, so if I can find these pens, I know you can!
I also look at other aspects of the writing life including notetaking, writing tools, and I will share research (written down with a fountain pen) while we drive through the Dakotas and occasionally Montana and Wyoming.

A spontaneous video where I filmed some flax. I briefly discuss the importance of using a tripod. Unfortunately, since I was using a 200mm lens, the wind created a lot of shake in my video. So I rectified it using DaVinci Resolve software, and did some color editing in Camtasia.

Well, I don't know what you traded but I doubt if it were any better than this gorgeous Waterman's 52 1/2. I hope to see more of this pen in PiU. The nib performance is superb. The feed is also amazing as the ink just flows and flows. Take care with that clip. You don't want to break it.
Lea and I really enjoyed this 2-parter weekend in Bowman. I actually watched several parts of it more than once. You have a great style of walking commentary and know when not to talk. A fav part of the first video was the garden in the park, what a cool idea, and the mural went well with it also. I guess it was special for us because we spent so much of our early years in similar small towns, most of the years raising our three daughters up until High School when we found ourselves in a city suburb. Closing the Main Street for a day so people can enjoy each other, games and contests downtown is a great idea to give town folk a time to be together for fun and perhaps bring in a few bucks from out of town. The car show was great -who would have thought that 59 Chevy wagon with the droopy rear wing would drive in a parade and pull a trailer (I took driver’s ed in a sedan version of that car.). Thank you for spending your week end to share Bowman’s fun weekend, it felt like we were there and brought back cool memories for us and made our weekend. Oh, and we finally caught up on your garden tour, looking forward to the next update. Best wishes for a smooth and pleasant school year start-up. -Alan & Lea
Be careful or she'll want to move! Glad you enjoyed. And, yes, that garden is great! I love events where Main Street is closed down, or even when residential streets are closed down. When people are walking around, kids are running around, and nobody is encased in a car, it's a great time.
@@WaskiSquirrel For Sure! Thanks Again.
Old post but beautiful pen. I wish i could find a montblanc for the price of a lamyn 2000 😁
You have to be willing to look at the used market!
Warm day? A pickup truck would come in handy for getting your garden produce to market. Grow some record breaking pumpkins 🎃. Quite an impressive turnout. Well organised. Thanks for making the effort.
Most of the time I prefer my small Toyota Camry. It's only occasionally that I want something that can haul stuff. Glad you enjoyed the show!
It was so interesting to listen to your pondering about the meaning of hobbies. I agree with you in most of the points because I experienced a lot of change in my life including hobbies and the time I could spend for them. Some were just mayflies - soon over after enthusiasm at the beginning. Others came back. Now that I am wiser and older I know that I am not an artist but I enjoy working with colors, writing and reading. These musings come back to me in several forms and I really enjoy every minute I can spend with my hobbies.
That's a good point! The hobby, even if not pursued in depth, may become part of us in a different way.
That seems like an awfully short summer break! I realize you’re not starting classwork yet, but….
It always seems too short. But my bank account does beg to differ...
Happy new school year!
Thank you!
All his stuff is great. The Disappearance of Childhood is good too.
That does look like a good read. I'll have to check into it!
Not sure if you have heard the news but Edmore schools dissolved at the end of this past (2023-24) school year. They still had a lot of opportunities for students having cooped with Langdon Area and Munich, but it was ruled in the best interest of the community to send the kids to neighboring schools and have the school building turned into a community center. School district has been divided up between Langdon Area (this part includes Edmore), Park River, Lakota, Devils Lake, Starkweather, and Munich.
I did hear the news. Sad to hear, but that is the direction so many rural schools have either gone or are headed yet. I'm surprised it was shared between so many districts!
Ok why do you live in nd ?
Witness Protection Program
Don’t want to make u Jealous but I live there
Nice town with a pleasant main street and library!
It sure does feel wonderful, when you're decluttered and organized. Btw, have you heard of Swedish Death Cleaning?
It really does feel good. I feel it daily when I cook but it's also there in all the little things as I interact with my various rooms. I'm calling it "Swedish Retirement Cleaning" for now.
looks great !!
Thank you! I just filmed an August update, so I hope to have that up maybe Thursday.
I inherited a Senator Regent from my father, who was a portrait artist and liked to work over a water colour--after drying--with black accents. This pen is very reminiscent of old Pelikans; interestingly instead of a straightforward piston knob at the bottom of the barrel, there's a blind cap that conceals a smaller knurled piston knob. Thanks for the review!
I actually like the Senator Regent even better than the Windsor. I've surprised myself more than once with that pen when I start writing and...suddenly it's empty and I have a lot of pages of text.
Once upon a time, I would have thought this town looked so boring. Now, I notice the absence of trash and homeless encampments, and other urban problems. The vacant storefronts are a concern, but those are present everywhere. The very small town; where I work; recently got a coffee shop, and it's been a sensation. My home town main street consists of two blocks, so I appreciate small towns.
Small towns are certainly quiet. We don't have the businesses we once did. But I can still buy a lot of the necessary things here.
It's good to hear that the neighbour in your garden was a mole. At least it won't eat your plants, as they are carnivores.
as far as Europe goes moles are common place and we don't do anything about them since they don't do harm. They are really like hedgehogs - another animal you may want to attract for a better harvest. Usually we give them something to eat when we find them in the garden, that way they return and eat harmful insects. Usually we give them cat food.
I tried to remind myself that moles are friends last night when I discovered an uprooted pepper plant!
@@WaskiSquirrel That's odd. I don't think they are meant to do it. Are you sure they aren't voles?
Dear Mr Waski...thank you so much for this awesome video- really enjoyed taking a look around your town. The cars were fun and that Volcano- just madness!! But fun. I really enjoyed seeing the farm vehicles as I live in the countryside in the UK and we have several tractor runs through our village of just over 100 people. They are the main events, harvest and tractor runs. Hope you had a fabulous day and hope you did not overheat out there too much. Sweet Blessings Mand XOXO
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a good day and fun to see all the cars.
On the Krishna ink site nearly everything is listed as sold out. A very few inks in 20 ml. containers are available. No clue as to what the issue is. Did they send all stock to distributors? Natural disaster? Their inks have appeared on multiple pen videos recently, so perhaps viewers rushed in in a fit of FOMO. Any suggestions?
I have no suggestions. I don't know what is going on with Krisha right now.
Quite the SHOW! The volcano thing was amazing to see once. And so many cars- fun -thanks! And, yes, the museum was extensive.
Glad you enjoyed it! I wish I could share the feel of the volcano!
Great video! Would you be willing to make a disassembly video for this pen? I’ve got a (functionally identical) Osmia 883 in the handsome green/black stripes color, and the piston seal leaks, causing very little suction and leaking out the back by the knob. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
My guess is that you need new o-rings on the piston. It may have a more complex piston, but those are hard to find. As for taking it apart, there are several ways these come apart. I experimented with mine and did not find the trick. I'm sorry I'm no more help.
Volcano... How much fuel to advance 1 meter? 😂😂😂
I was wondering how much fuel was burned there...
Cool. Cars! Planes and trains next?
I've done two train videos. Maybe I need to do a plane video!
Another masterpiece! What fun! Loved the museum. Thank you for showing me your beautiful little town.
Glad you enjoyed it! There really is a lot here!
Wow! Looks like a great museum! It even has a 'lab'!!! Sooo many fun cars! From 'grandpas' muscle car... and great granddad ride to newer cars... From restored to 'in process'!!! Great turnout of cars!!!
We're lucky to have this museum. They usually have at least one intern working there in the summer, sometimes more than one. And, yes, the selection of cars was fun!
Great T-shirt!
Thank you! I got a few comments on it at the car show...
Fun cars. Probably collecting cars is more expensive than collecting fountain pens.
From the prices in the auction...definitely a lot more expensive!
how fun, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed!
This was fun! I'd really rather live in a small town ... I'm a fish out of water here in the city! You actually have more things you can walk to close by too ... very nice!!!!
Most American cities are not accessible without a car. That's a perk of small towns: they share the same bad design, but that design is in a much smaller area.
Thanks for that tour. Puts a lot of things you mention in videos into context.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It’s a much larger community/shopping area than I expected. Good idea to leave the car at home. So they don’t deliver the mail to your house?
It's strange how the mail delivery works. I don't get home delivery because previous owners didn't have it, and I can't add it.
Huzzah for mini - libraries!
Thank you!
The second part of this video will probably attract a whole new audience on UA-cam. I wonder if your views will go up. Classic Cars are very popular. It was great to have a look at your town again. It feels strange to me that you go to the post office to collect your mail. In the UK the Royal Mail will walk up to your door and push any letters through the letterbox. They will knock on your door if they have a parcel. Our post offices have several roles. You can buy stamps, send a parcel, buy stationery, pay bills and many other things. However, they don't have mail boxes! I was hoping to see a store or business in your town that we have in my city. I had high hopes of a McDonalds, Burger King, KFC or Subway. Sadly it wasn't to be. I noticed you are something of a celebrity as well, quite a few people stopped to say "hello" during the filming. Altogether a very enjoyable video and interesting to see what life is like in your town.
I'm not sure how the mail thing works because they deliver mail on a box on my street, but because this house didn't previously have a box, they won't add one for me. The benefit of this is that my mailing address is seperated from my living address. Here the Post Office has many of those same roles, but not the bill paying. My town is small enough that we don't have the chains you mentioned.
💙💙Hı from Türkiye.. I am happy to inform you about the Istanbul "Pen Fest" event, held at Çırağan Palace on 9-10 November 2024, where all pen lovers and companies in the world will meet. Thank you for the video.💙💙
I'm glad to read that there is a pen show in your country! So far, I've been unable to go to a pen show, but someday...
This ‘small’ town is ‘smaller’ than most of the ‘small’ towns I’ve passed through during my time in the US, but ‘larger’ and nicer than I had imagined. Population in my small residential colony in my city of 14 million people here in India is more than that of your town ! Number of motels and number of cars in the Ford dealership surprised me.
My town is small, but we do have a lot more to offer than many similar towns our size.
I’d move here in a heartbeat if I could. Love the vibe.
It's a lifestyle change from larger areas. But maybe worth considering if your situation becomes more flexible.
Thank you for the tour of your town. It's so much bigger than my tiny town. I like how you can walk to everything. Looks like the car show is going to be a pretty big event! Hope you enjoy it!
Walkability was a big factor in choosing this town.
I really want to do a free library. That Swan Song book by Robert R McCammon is on my TBR! I loved his Boy's Life. Such a lovely town! Sad to see so many things are closed. Have fun at the car show!
Thank you! I read Boy's Life long ago. This book reminded me that I should reread it. Things are closed, but we also have a lot of businesses still alive. The world of small town retail is changing, and I hope my town can survive the changes.
Very nice! I actually used to live right on Hwy 12, but quite a distance away, in Idaho.
I imagine the Idaho portion looks quite different!
@@WaskiSquirrel Very much so. River valleys, but still beautiful scenery.
I have a torn up beat up hot pink small notebook I use for all my fiber arts notes. It's great! I can look back five years and see how I've changed as a human and an artist. It's always in my bag!
Glad to hear that! Sometimes old notes/writing are a mine for ideas. Sometimes it seems like they come from an alien.
Love your shirt!!!
Thank you!
OK-now I wanna see the grocery store- since where you USED to shop closed! Is there any kind of clothing store? How far do you have to go for a department store ? Love this feeling of another world than mine. ANDi love your balloon flower plant! Looking forward to part 2!
I'll see what I can do about the grocery store. It's much larger and more modern, but I miss having a store on Main Street. As for a department store...the nearest WalMart is in Dickinson, ND, about 90 miles away. Yes, the balloon flower is amazing. This year it really took off!
This was a very interesting tour!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome!
Thanks!
That was great fun! I appreciate the tour of your town and the explanation, as I was wondering why such a small town has so many businesses and amenities. The town garden is impressive. I love seeing old signs and would enjoy a closer look at the old motel sign. Those vintage signs are real classics!
We are pretty lucky with our location. We got lucky around the turn of the century when the railroad chose to come through this town. Now we're at the crossing of two major highways. Yes, I need to photograph those old signs: they are pieces of history and should be recorded before they disappear.
Love the non-busy streets and the overall calm and quiet.
This is the largest town I've ever lived in, but still quiet once you get off the two highways.
Love the tour of your home. Are those cars going to be restored?
I hope they'll be restored! I found them sitting on the same trailers during the car show and used to block up a street.
Jason, Thank you so much for the excellent tour of Bowman! You're quite a natural at this. Bowman is a lovely little town and it was so nice to see that there was plenty of life in the downtown area. So often you'll see so many small towns that are boarded-up and lifeless-looking. Not the case here. There were quite a few interesting things and a variety of businesses, which was a bit of a surprise. I can see why you've made a life for yourself here. I could tell that there is a real sense of community here and I envy you a bit. I loved your house! By the way, what was that blue flower again? Lovely. Can't wait to see the museum!
I'm so glad you enjoyed! Yes, we're far enough away from civilization that we have a lot of businesses that similarly sized towns don't have. The blue flower was a balloon flower. Platycodon grandiflorus. It's doing really well this year!
I knew I saw the back of it that that was a free library. Amazing. Let’s get those books out there.🎉
I hope so too!
I'm really pissed that Waterman stopped producing the large sized Exception - it was a great pen and a worthy heir to the Man 100. Their current range is very limited.
I'm not too familiar with their line up. I was impressed with both of these, though.
Waski, wow! I really, really like this vid! It’s so interesting to see your wonderful town & hear your intelligent commentary. It must be quite gratifying to have so many people know you & say hello as you walk down the street. That sense of community is almost a bygone phenomenon, sadly. I’ll probably watch this video a few times. Thanks again, my interwebz friend.
It's a town of 1500 people, and I teach a lot of their kids/grandkids.
